Dear hearts~
I’ve been threatening to share this information with several of you for awhile now, and meaning to share it with the rest of you, too. And now I am finally following through! Yay, us!
I cannot recommend a yoga practice, enough, to anyone wanting to live more fully & intentionally in their body, to embody. For anyone wanting to heal their heart. For anyone wanting to feel good in body and mind and spirit (and heart).  If I could write a prescription for all beings, but especially my beloved clients, it would be:
  1.  Take your weight. Divide it in 2. Use that number to determine your water intake, in ounces. example: 100 pounds, divided by 2 equals 50. So 50 ounces of water per day. Everyday.
  2.  A massage every month, minimum. More if you can afford it. (my own Massage-A-Month-Club can help with that!)
  3.  Yoga ATLEAST once a week, ideally 2-3x
  4.  30 minute gratitude walk everyday.
  5.  Deep Belly Breathing throughout the day
  6. LOVE yourself unequivocally (!!!) (if you only do one of these, let it be this! followed closely by #1 on this list!)
I believe EVERYTHING in life can be resolved with this formula. It might seem bold OR simple & naive, but these hold the key to powerful change on a cellular & energetic level, which, by no coincidence is where all dis-ease and suffering, originate.These powerful allies can help change your mind, your body, your spirit.

GENTLE AND THERAPEUTIC  The pace of this class will be slow and gentle to accommodate students of varying degree of disability. Chairs will be used to assist in poses and alternative poses will be given for those comfortable with getting up and down from the floor. A great class for anyone dealing with injury or other health concerns.

A 90 minute class that mixes stationary and fluid movements, instructional breath technique, attention to alignment principles, and guided meditation in an intelligent sequence to achieve a therapeutic and fortifying experience for the body and mind. All levels welcome.
Saturdays, 10:30am – noon, at PVCC in Arcadia is still going too!
All classes are Women only. This allows us to focus on the transformational process of the female body and mind in a safe, supportive, and uninhibited environment. Students are encouraged to share their therapeutic needs with the teacher so that we can explore Yoga as a healing modality.
Price variations are dependent on the needs of the hosting space. All of our hosts are organizations committed to community service so you can feel good about your contributions. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Consider Yourself.

After my 5th cup of tea today, I’m ready to proclaim this as the best Saturday ever…

I’m well stocked from my trip to the library, have a fresh–still warm– loaf of French peasant bread, and a tea kettle that hasn’t had a rest yet, plus, my trusty canine companion keeping my toes toasty. Perfection.

Earlier today I whipped up a batch of tumeric paste (learn what I use it for HERE), harvested some herbs from my gardens, and made a list of more yummy oils and tinctures I’m looking forward to making, and sharing, with my clients! (I make all my own oil blends used in massages; I infuse with herbs, add essential oils, and blend combinations of carrier oils for the most nutrient dense and luxurious skin food!).

While it’s nice to have the day to do as I please, this morning I said to my husband “I kinda wish I were working today”. Who says that!?!? (I AM passionate about my work!). But seriously, Saturdays are actually one of my favorite days to give massages! The energy and pace feels different. I dare say there’s a little magic on weekends that just isn’t there the rest of the week. (Of course there’s no bad day for a massage, amen?!?!) But, who doesn’t love a weekend massage?

My space inside Grow Benzie’s studio house includes a cozy lounge area with a couch, chairs, lamplight, and ample reading supplies. I’ve also got a full kitchen and a well stocked assortment of teas. Consider grabbing a friend or two, (or 4!) and selecting a date for a little self care Saturday ( Calendar HERE). I’ll have tea and soup and supplies for foot soaks and even an exfoliating sea salt scrub or pumpkin enzyme mask. You can catch up with your friends, or on your reading, or even on your sleep, beckoned by that soft couch and Saturdays invitation to exhale, while you wait for your turn on the plush and heated massage table. You can even bring your own champagne for mimosas, if you’re inspired. Just come, spend Saturday with me.

Healing happens here…

In the last week I’ve seen a wide variety of health concerns on my massage table. This is not unusual– but it occurred to me this morning as I was stretching and noticing the areas on my own body that feel tender, sore, tight: Every Body Needs Massage.

Just a quick glance at some of the issues brought to my table in the last week have been

  • A grieving widow, exhausted and needing comfort
  • Two Mama’s to be
  • A woman with whiplash and emotional overwhelm from her car accident
  • A hamstring injury
  • Plantar Fascitis 
  • Anxiety & depression
  • A stressed out and over worked single mama with 3 jobs who had her first complete day off since Memorial Day Weekend
  • Sciatica & TMJD

And of course, many knots/adhesions in the Rhomboids (that area between spine and shoulder blades), tired feet, aching low backs, and some who just needed to be touched. I’ve also had a competive athlete and a retired couple who feel great because I see them every week and they know it keeps them movin! 

Skilled hands CAN be effective treatment for so many ailments, as a stand alone or with other practitioners, like physicians, chiropractors, mental health therapists, acupuncturists, yoga instructors,  etc. 

I absolutely love that I get to spend atleast an hour with these people, with focused intention on their well being. I love watching the body relax into that Zen state, where the breathing is rhythmic and the muscles and joints release their attentive grip. I love the conversations about life, about wellness, the questions I’m asked, the trust I’m given. It is such an honor to get to do work I love, work I’ve devoted myself to for 15 years.

Wellness Brigade

Yesterday, atop a hill overlooking Bear Lake and a sliver of The Big Lake, my friend and fellow LMT, Nicole, and I set up shop for a women’s wellness evening.

Six wise women gathered together for time together taking care of each other and their precious selves. They made delicious, home grown food, gave each other foot baths and allowed Nicole and I to give them each an hour of blissful massage. They listened deeply to one another and cultivated their friendships, they laughed and cried, and they made space to connect to their bodies and hearts.

These wellness gatherings are my favorite way of “doing business” and are also my oldest form of it. Back in Salt Lake City, Utah, after completing my studies to become a bodyworker, I asked a friend to ask her girlfriends to have a massage party. At the time, I needed gas money to drive across country with my son, to return home for my first job in my new career. Eight women showed up that night for my new skills to be put to the test. I had never done that many in a day at that point, but I found the collective enthusiasm of all the women to keep me energized, and a seed was planted.

When women gather together to take care of themselves, a potent force comes to life. Connections and commitments to well being are borne, partners in accountability are forged, and relaxation of mind and body allow a rootedness to settle into the sacred space. Making time with your sisters or daughters or girlfriends or female coworkers helps you drop back into your daily life with new awareness of the importance for self care, which includes time with our tribes.

Life stays busy unless you set an intention to slow it down a little bit here and there. Taking time to listen to your body and your spirit, checking in with your self and your sisters or sistas, sends you back into the spinning world with a reinvestment into the well from which you draw your resiliency.

If you would like to gather your women for a day of reconnecting, I encourage you to contact me and let me help you plan an afternoon or evening of bliss and togetherness. With as few as two participants and as many as 10, I can customize a mini retreat in your home, office or cottage, with 1 or 2 massage therapists.

I’ve had some time to think about life…

I’ve had some life to think about time…

There are some things I’d like to share with you, yes you– if you think about these things, too.

When I was in massage school they urged is to find our niche, in our field. They said “don’t go out there trying to be everyone’s massage therapist”, and “focus on a specialty”. I was 25 and from a small town and I didn’t think I could be selective.

But I’ve had some time to think about things. I’ve had some time to consider who I’m here to serve.

When I think about my true work, I know that who I am and what I have to offer is aligned with those who need to experience peace, if only for an hour. Those who need to be heard and held. Those who have the words for it and those who don’t. I am for the seeker and the down trodden, the tired and the anxious, the ones who don’t know how to put themselves on their to do list and the ones who have learned the hard way.

There have been many who have encouraged me over the years to raise my rates! Don’t sell yourself short! Don’t discount!

But I have been a single mama who needed an outstretched hand that said “I see you”. I have struggled to put food on the table with a body that was depleted from the effort. I have been down on my luck and down on myself and needed someone to just touch me. I have had to choose at times which bills to pay and thought how could I spend money on myself? I have lived with abundance yet been so busy I couldn’t see straight and thought there was no time for me.  I have had hard times where I didn’t know where to start, where I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror, where my outsides made me want to hide and certainly not be seen or held by another. I have been all of you and I see you and I am speaking to you, right where you are, right now.

Incorporating self care, in the form of a massage, even just once a month, changes your story. So many people believe massage is a luxury for the haves, rather than the have nots or the I don’t have time for’s. So many people live with discomfort, push themselves to the limits, and wish they could find a solution to the gnawing feeling of “there has to be more”.

When you acknowledge yourself, your body soul mind, with a regular check in, through devoted bodywork, things begin to shift. You begin to find your voice, the one you stifle while you check off the tasks of daily living. The voice that echoes when you see someone radiating with vibrant health; the voice that says “I wish I had _____ or ______ so I could do/be ________, ________, or ______.

Massage from the viewpoint of self care leads to self love. Self love leads to peace within. Peace from within lends itself to outward peace. And peace is what our worlds needs now more than ever. You, loving yourself, spreads like wild fire. It’s contagious. You have the power within yourself to balance the scales of injustice and oppression by committing yourself to love– for yourself, and on a planetary level.

Small acts are the first steps to giant leaps. We all have a purpose. My intention with mine is to serve those of you who have something sacred to offer the spinning world; to listen to your body, translate that message for you so you can move into action. Whether that is  caring for your family, serving humanity or slaying dragons. I am here for you.

To believe they belong on their to do list. The Invitation…

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, ‘Yes.’
It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Happy summer! Make it great!

Need any inspiration for summer self care? Heres a list of ways you can carve out a little you time

1. Grab a good book and a quilt, and read under a tree.

2. Go hiking – make sure you stop and enjoy the scenery and fresh air!

3. Go to the beach! All that vitamin D and cleansing, purifying water is good for you the sound of water while relaxing is great!

4. Find a river or creek, and meditate, take a nap, dip your feet in, or do whatever feels right for you.

5. Give yourself a foot soak with epsom salt and lavender essential oils (or real lavender!). Not only will it make your feet uber soft, but it helps draw toxins out of your body.

7. Go to the park, lay in the grass, and find shapes and animals in the clouds.

8. Take time to journal – it can be a bullet list, a regular writing journal, or even a sketch or collage book.

9. Make yourself a frozen smoothie from fresh fruit – healthy and refreshing!

10. Unplug for a day – Facebook, television…everything but the radio, because great music makes for great vibrational energy!

11. Hang your sheets on the clothesline to dry! They will smell so good!

12. Meditate outside! It’s easier to connect with earth when you’re actually planted on it, and you can always use a guided meditation via headphones to help.

13. Create yourself some beautiful physical space – clear out your bedroom, create an altar, make yourself a little reading nook, etc.

14. Visit a museum, attend a concert – get out and do something you think is fun – alone! I LOVE perusing art at Galleries and greenhouses by myself.

15. Try something new! Take a surfing lesson, or knitting lessons, or go hike that path you’ve been meaning to try.

16. Go out for an ice cream (or yogurt) cone. What summer is complete without one?

17. Start a gratitude list/journal, and add at least one thing to it every day. By the end of the summer, you will have a whole list of things for which you were grateful!

18. Wake up early and watch a sunrise – find a great view if you have one close by

19. Paint something – watercolor, acrylics, or even finger painting! Finger painting is a fun way to let loose. If you don’t feel like painting, you can always color!

20. Go outside and star-gaze – especially during the Delta Aquariid meteor shower on July 28th and the Perseid meteor shower on August 12th.

21. Pick a color that makes you happy and add more of it to your surroundings (and wardrobe!)

22. Write out a personal manifesto for the summer, or for the remainder of the year

23. Is it a rainy day? Open the doors and windows, and turn on some music – there are amazing rainy day playlists on Spotify and YouTube

24. Drink more water, and add fresh fruit to it.

25. Get a massaged from me!
